Tony Mowbray had no qualms over Danny Graham’s decision to take over the penalty taking duties in Rovers’ 2-2 draw with Swansea City.

Graham came off the bench early in the second half and picked up the ball to take the spot-kick after Ben Brereton had been fouled.

Swansea goalkeeper Freddie Woodman denied him from 12 yards however, diving away to his left to keep out the effort, his second penalty save of the week.

Adam Armstrong has been Rovers’ penalty taker of late, scoring three times from the spot this season, including in the 2-2 draw with Brentford earlier this month.

They all came at times when Bradley Dack or Graham weren’t on the pitch however, with Mowbray happy to leave the decision to his players on the pitch.

Asked if it was a decision made by the players on the pitch, Mowbray told the Lancashire Telegraph: “I think so.

“From the team that started, Adam would have taken the penalty. Danny Graham came off the bench and was on the pitch, if Bradley Dack was on the pitch then he’d have probably taken it in front of Danny.

“I have no problem with Danny taking it. Adam is in good form, scoring form, I’m sure he would have wanted to take it.

“Danny is a senior player, he’s been scoring penalties for 15 years and I’m sure he felt very confident that it was going to be another goal that he would have had on his tally.”

Bradley Johnson came off the bench to rescue a point for Rovers, his deflected strike in the 95th minute sparking celebratory scenes at Ewood Park.

Rovers had led through Sam Gallagher’s fifth of the season, but goals either side of half time from Rhian Brewster, and an Andre Ayew penalty, had the Swans ahead.

Graham then missed a penalty, but Rovers to their credit kept going to the end, rescuing a point through Johnson’s goal.

“It would have been nice if that was the winner. That’s the frustration,” Mowbray added.

“We missed a penalty to make it 2-2 and I always felt like we could still win the game.

“I was so annoyed with them at the start of the second half, we took the kick off and boot it straight out of touch, then we give a free kick away on the edge of our box, then we give a penalty away all within a minute-and-a-half. It was so unlike us.

“In my opinion, Lenihan’s miss, someone who moans at Adarabioyo, shouts at him to get him up and doing things properly was a loss for us.

“But we moved a point closer by the results, but there’s a frustration because this was a game we targeted to win and tried to pick a team that would get us on the front foot and ask them questions.

“We started well, but sit here with a frustration after a 2-2. But if you score in the 95th minute you have to take it and put the point in the bag and move on.”
