Burnley played out a goalless draw at Newcastle on Saturday as they extended their Premier League unbeaten run to six games.

A game that won’t live long in the memory saw few real chances created by either side.

Chris Wood should have done better with a header in the second period after Jeff Hendrick brought a save from Martin Dubravka in the first.

Nick Pope 6

Early slip nearly led to an embarrassing moment but was solid enough on a day where he had little to do.

Phil Bardsley 6

Put in a good block from Dwight Gayle before a slack bit of play nearly let the hosts in before half-time. Booked late in first period but stuck to his task.

James Tarkowski 8

Burnley’s best player with Gareth Southgate watching on. Booked for a foul on Almiron before being on the receiving end of a nasty challenge from Jonjo Shelvey.

Ben Mee 7

Involved at both ends of the pitch, delighting the Clarets fans with one bit of skill to win a corner in the first half. A solid display from the skipper.

Charlie Taylor 7

Took time to grow into the game but one challenge on Almiron prevented Magpies man being in on goal in the first period before producing a couple of key challenges in the second. Got forward when he could.

Jeff Hendrick 6

Had a shot, or was it a cross, palmed away by Martin Dubravka in the first half but frustrated at times. Switched wings with Dwight McNeil very briefly but had little impact on the game.

Ashley Westwood 6

Usual passing precision was off on a day where plenty of players were not at their best.

Jack Cork 6

A solid enough showing in the middle of the park but couldn’t give the Clarets the control the game needed.

Dwight McNeil 6

Mucked in early on in the left back area. Shifted to the right wing briefly but best work after the break came on left, putting in a fine cross which Wood headed wide.

Matej Vydra 5

Touch and ball retention let him down too often and was replaced by Chris Wood 10 minutes into the second half. When will he next see action?

Jay Rodriguez 6

Burnley’s best outlet in the first half fired an effort over in the second when flagged offside. Had he scored, VAR might have had something to say. Tired late on.

Chris Wood 6

Into the action after 55 minutes and made an immediate impact. Fired a shot wide and then should have sent a header from a McNeil cross goalwards.
