SEAN Dyche admits he has a 'welcome headache' when it comes to picking his front line to face Newcastle on Saturday, with Chris Wood in contention for a first team return.

Burnley’s top scorer has recovered from the hamstring injury which forced him to miss last weekend’s win over Bournemouth, having limped off against Southampton seven days earlier.

Matej Vydra came off the bench to score the winner at St Mary’s, which prompted the Czech to start his first Premier League game since November 2018.

He responded by linking well with Jay Rodriguez and making it two goals in as many games to secure a 3-0 win over the Cherries at Turf Moor.

And Dyche admits that having three fit and in-form strikers to fill two places in the starting XI is a nice problem to have.

“He (Vydra) is giving you the problems that you definitely want - him and other players when we’ve changed whether it be when someone’s injured or difference in form,” said the Burnley boss.

"(Wood) is certainly fit so he comes back into the thinking but Vyds and Jay Rod in the last couple of games have laid down a marker as well.

"You want players coming active, you want them to lay down a mark."

Elsewhere on the injury front, Ashley Barnes is continuing his recovery from hernia surgery while Matt Lowton’s knee problem is being monitored.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson returned to the bench against Bournemouth after the hamstring injury but has since had a setback and is doubtful for the trip to St James' Park.

"It's unlikely. He's got a bit of work in today but it's unlikely," said Dyche, who confirmed it was not a recurrence of his hamstring problem.

"He's just had a few niggles on the way back. Unfortunately it's the human body and it's not always right to deliver what it needs to deliver.

"He's a great lad around the place, he's professional and he wants to play like all players.

"I think the hardest part of football is being injured. I had far too many myself when I was a player.

"I've never met a player yet who doesn't want to be fit and running around, that's for sure."
