Tony Mowbray isn’t about to start shouting from the rooftops about Rovers’ play-off credentials and won’t let anyone get ahead of themselves.

Rovers face a pivotal week in their push for the top six, with back-to-back home games with Stoke City and Swansea City.

The gap to the play-offs is now five points, but the chasing pack are bunching up, with Rovers’ run of one defeat in eight matches keeping them firmly in the mix.

They will look to take advantage of their home matches this week, but Mowbray has warned his side against complacency having not missed a similar opportunity earlier in the season.

And the manager is keeping his emotions in check, wanting his side to keep their effort levels high in a bid to keep their place in the play-off conversation in the final 12 games. “I don’t want to shout from the rooftops about how we’re doing, it’s right that we keep trying to take points, see how each game goes,” he said.

“We won’t get ahead of ourselves. I believe in the team and let’s see how this week goes.

“A month or six weeks ago we had a couple of home games on the back of a good away result but drew them both and only got two points.

“Let’s see how we get on on Wednesday and then see what Swansea bring and keep going.”

Adam Armstrong scored from the spot eight minutes in to the second half to put Rovers 2-0 ahead at Brentford on Saturday.

They were pegged back by an Ollie Watkins strike, and Said Benrahma penalty as it ended all square at Griffin Park.

Rovers had led 2-0 in the same fixture 13 months ago, only to lose 5-2, and Mowbray feels his side have come a long way since then.

He added: “It was very similar to last year, we were 2-0 up and we had lots of injuries as well.

“We took a bit of a hiding from a team who are very good with the ball but we showed that resilience and saw the game out.

“We could have also won it with the chance we had.”

Armstrong now leads the way for goals this season, his double against the Bees taking him to 12 for the season.

“He is proving to Rovers’ go-to man in attack, and a delighted Mowbray added: “He’s in a vein of form where he’s just ‘smelling’ goals.

He’s been scoring goals ever since he was 16, so he knows where the back of the net is.

“He’s just been given the opportunity here to show people that he is capable of scoring goals and putting in the performances at a level where, hopefully he’s helping our team to get towards the top-end of the table.”

Meanwhile, Rovers’ Premier League Cup game with Burnley has been postponed for a second time.

The two sides were set to face each other in their final Group G game at Oldham’s Boundary Park today (2pm), but it has been called off because of a waterlogged pitch.

That was the reason for Thursday’s postponement at Morecambe’s Globe Arena, with a third date set to be announced in due course.

Rovers are already through as group winners and will face either Wolves or Derby in the last 16, while the Clarets can’t qualify, having lost three of their five matches.

Rovers are next in action against Liverpool at Leyland on Friday (7pm).
