CHRIS Wood could make his Burnley return for the trip to Newcastle on Saturday.

The Kiwi frontman missed the win over Bournemouth at Turf Moor having limped out of the victory over Southampton seven days earlier.

Having scored the winner against the Saints off the bench, Matej Vydra started a Premier League game for the first time since November 2018 and made it two goals in two games as the Clarets ran out 3-0 winners against Eddie Howe’s side.

Wood however was with the squad at the weekend and could give Sean Dyche a real selection headache in the North East, Jay Rodriguez also having found the target against the Cherries as he continues to impress during Burnley’s run of four wins in their last five Premier League games.

Elsewhere on the injury front, Ashley Barnes is continuing his recovery from hernia surgery while Matt Lowton’s knee problem is being monitored.

Dyche was however handed a boost against Bournemouth with Johann Berg Gudmundsson back on the bench after his hamstring injury.

“Matt Lowton is just letting things settle in his knee and we have had a look at it and it’s so far, so good,” said Dyche.

“Barnesy is making progress, Woody was on the grass with the physios (on Friday) so we are hopeful that he will be back around it.

“We are beginning to get fully fit again.”
