Joe Rothwell is a big doubt for Rovers’ trip to Middlesbrough this weekend after tweaking his hamstring in the win over QPR.

Rothwell set up both of Rovers’ goals, scored by Adam Armstrong and Darragh Lenihan, in what was an excellent first-half display.

However, he didn’t appear for the second half owing to an injury sustained at the end of the first period and was replaced by Elliott Bennett.

Boss Tony Mowbray felt Rovers lost some of their fluency after the departure of Rothwell who will be assessed on Thursday before a decision is taking on any possible involvement this weekend.

“He’s tweaked his hamstring so I don’t think he’ll make the weekend,” Mowbray said.

“He had two assists and I think he was exceptional.

“He’s a very talented boy. He’s had to learn a different level of football to what he was used to Oxford when he was a bit of a star and getting the ball and running up the pitch with it.

“I’ve not played him because he wasn’t working hard enough without the ball but he’s doing that, creating chances, putting the ball in the box and looks a real threat.

“It’s just a shame he’s picked up a little tweak of his hamstring.”
