Burnley bowed out of the FA Cup at the fourth round stage with a 2-1 defeat against Norwich.

After a first half full of chances didn’t bring any goals, two in four second half minutes did the damage for the visitors.

Former Blackburn defender Grant Hanley headed in the opener before Josip Drmic made it two after Joe Hart had saved Lukas Rupp’s initial effort.

Erik Pieters’ fine strike did reduce the arrears but the Clarets never looked like finding an equaliser to force a replay.

Joe Hart 7

Continued his role as the cup keeper and impressed in the first half, one save in particular from Onel Hernandez catching the eye. No chance with the first goal and unlucky with the second after initial save.

Matt Lowton 6

Had his hands full with Hernandez in the opening 45 minutes but stuck to his task by and large as he looks to keep his place ahead of Phil Bardsley.

James Tarkowski 9

Absolutely everywhere in the first half. A clearance off the line, a goal-saving challenge on Mario Vrancic and then a header off the crossbar at the other end. Picked up a knock in the second but carried on.

Kevin Long 4

Lucky to have Tarkowski by his side. Josip Drmic’s movement caused him problems early on and then beaten by Grant Hanley for the opening goal. A tough afternoon.

Erik Pieters 5

Found it tough going as Sam Byram overlapped in the first half and out of position to play Norwich onside for their second goal. Then stepped up to hammer in a fine goal.

Aaron Lennon 6

In and out of the game in truth which is a familiar tale. Found himself in promising positions at times but couldn’t make the most of them.

Jack Cork 6

Couldn’t halt the Norwich charge in the first half but tried to keep the Clarets ticking over and sent one effort not far wide. Subbed after 65 minutes with Jeff Hendrick taking his place.

Ashley Westwood 6

Typical industry in the middle of the park. Tried to get the Clarets going from deep but found himself frustrated.

Robbie Brady 6

In a first half full of efforts on goal, the winger had three, one stinging the palms of Ralf Fahrmann. Quality clear but needed more end product.

Chris Wood 6

Nicked the ball early on before squaring for Jay Rodriguez’s big chance. That aside though didn’t bully the Norwich defence as he would have hoped. Replaced midway through second half.

Jay Rodriguez 6

In a glut of Norwich chances should have opened the scoring early on but fired straight at Fahrmann after Wood’s pull back. Short on service.

Jeff Hendrick 6

On for the final 25 minutes, was straight into the action with a shot going narrowly wide. Frustrated at times though with some sloppy play.

Matej Vydra 6

Also got his chance as part of a double change with Hendrick and some promising touches aside, couldn’t impact the game.

Dwight McNeil 6

Given the final 10 minutes as the Clarets went in search of an equaliser. Gave the hosts a spark as expected but couldn’t force the issue.
