Rovers reporter Rich Sharpe hands out his player ratings after the 5-0 win at Sheffield Wednesday.

Christian Walton 8

Only had one shot to save, that a 21st Luongo strike. Punched away a Bannan corner in the second half in his only action after the break.

Ryan Nyambe 9

Helped Rovers again get up the pitch. Started the game terrifically well, pushing Wednesday back, and teed up Travis for the second goal. Showed maturity in the second half, having just come back from a hamstring strain, not to over-extend himself.

Darragh Lenihan 9

Marked his 150th Rovers appearance with his first goal of the season. But there was a steely determination to his game, particularly after the arrival of Nuhiu, to keep a clean sheet.

Tosin Adarabioyo 8

Made the game look easy as he helped build attack after attack for Rovers, including an excellent pass in the lead up to the opening goal. Not stretched defensively all afternoon.

Amari’i Bell 8

Getting a run in the side at left back and kept his width well in both halves. Prevented Murphy from having any involvement in the game.

Lewis Travis 8

Was villain of the piece, in the Wednesday fans’ eyes, but impressed again. His shot led to the second goal, and he hardly lost a tackle all game. Taken off at a time when things were getting heated.

Stewart Downing 9

Controlled the game from start to finish, punishing Wednesday when they went down to 10 men with his range of passing keeping the pitch as wide as possible. Beautiful cross for Lenihan’s goal. Had 102 touches and completed 90 per cent of his passes.

Lewis Holtby 9

The performance that most have been waiting for in a Rovers shirt, scoring twice, and completing 90 minutes. His two goals were scruffy, but being in those positions will be most pleasing to his manager. Unlucky not to add to his tally in the second half.

Joe Rothwell 8

Was at his busy best in the first half, cutting in from the left. An excellent second half run almost created a hat-trick goal for Holtby. Taken off after being booked.

Adam Armstrong 9

Unlucky not to score himself, denied by Dawson in both halves, but created both of Holtby’s goals. His movement in behind, and coming short, was too much for Wednesday to handle. Five goals and four assists in his last 10 games.

Sam Gallagher 8

Could see in his celebration how much his late goal meant to him. Had the beating of Borner early on, and forced a good save from Dawson in the second half. Proved to be a goal threat, even from the right.

Subs

Joe Rankin-Costello (for Rothwell, 58) 8

Looks at home on the first-team stage, and could become an excellent option for the remainder of the season with his versatility. Lovely weighted pass for Gallagher’s late strike.

Jacob Davenport (for Travis, 73) 7

Perfect opportunity to hand the midfielder a first appearance of the season. Was quickly in to the action, firing over the bar from distance with his first touch.

Ben Brereton (for Armstrong, 87) 6

Had a hand in the fifth goal after his late arrival.

Unused subs: Jayson Leutwiler, Derrick Williams, Elliott Bennett, Danny Graham
