BURNLEY FC Women have been drawn at home to higher league Leicester City Women in the fourth round of the Women’s FA Cup.

The Clarets booked their place in the next round after coming from behind to beat Nottingham Forest Women at Padiham FC’s Arbories Ground.

It was a hard-fought victory for Burnley - sealed thanks to late goals from Sarah Agger and Nic Worthington - to end Forest’s long unbeaten.

The Clarets, who are second in the Northern Premier Division following promotion last season, will now get the chance to test themselves against a Leicester side who are currently eighth in the Women’s Championship.

The tie will take place on Sunday, January 26.

In the clash against Forest, both teams went in search of an early goal, Sarah Greenhalgh going close for the Clarets while Bolu Fisher did likewise for the visitors.

In a frantic start, Evie Priestley shot wide of the Forest goal while Greenhalgh tried her luck with two long range efforts.

At the other end, Ellie Casper saw her goalbound effort well blocked by Olivia Wilson.

Priestley forced the Forest keeper in to a great diving save but it was the visitors who finished off the half strongly, hitting the crossbar before Clarets keeper Lauren Bracewell was called in to action to deny Precious Hamilton.

Forest broke the deadlock just after the hour mark when they dangerous Fisher fired home from close range.

The Clarets were struggled to get back in to the game and Hamilton went close to doubling Forest’s lead but fired just wide.

But with 13 minute remaining, Burnley did draw level.

Lizzy Hamer pulled the ball back from the byline to pick out Sarah Agger on the wing who cut inside and beat the Forest keeper with a wonderful 25 yard effort.

With six minutes left, Burnley were awarded a free when Lizzy Hamer was brought down close to the touch line but level with the penalty spot.

Worthington stepped up and whipped in a ball that took a slight deflection off a defender before going in off the far post to seal victory for the Clarets.

Burnley FC Women are back in league action on Sunday when they travel to take on Derby County LFC at Mickleover Sports Club (2pm ko).
