SEAN Dyche said the reaction for Matej Vydra when he emerged from the bench in Burnley’s FA Cup win over Peterborough was “quite intriguing”.

The Czech striker played the final 20 minutes of the 4-2 victory that set up a round four tie with Norwich, entering the field at Turf Moor to a warm reception from the less than 6,500 fans in attendance.

It was just his seventh appearance of the season with many supporters clearly delighted to see a forward who has found opportunities limited since his £11 million move from Derby in August 2018.

Vydra had one real opening in the game but saw a Posh defender get in the way of an effort after Jeff Hendrick’s free-kick had come back off the woodwork late on.

“The fans went crazy,” Dyche said with a smile. “He must have got 20 goals last season because the fans went mad!

“That was quite intriguing, it was good to see that and that they want the players playing.

“He was unlucky with the one that bounced back off the crossbar from Jeff and the lad makes a good block. We want players to be sharp and ready.

“As many times as we will get him involved we will get him involved.”

One player who was an unused substitute on the day was Under-23s man Ali Koiki.

The left-sided player has been in the goals for the development squad this season but saw Charlie Taylor enter the field for the second half when Johann Berg Gudmundsson was injured with some calling for the 20-year-old to be given a chance.

That meant two natural left backs, Taylor and Erik Pieters, interchanged down the flank in the second period as Burnley made sure of their passage to the next stage.

“It is good to get a few of the young lads around it,” said Dyche.

“We knew that Erik had operated in that wide left hole and done a good job and we know Chaz is in really good and powerful form with the way he is playing at the minute so it was a pretty straightforward decision.

“It is good to get the young lads around it that is for sure.”

Having finished last season with Swindon, it could that Koiki becomes one of an increasing number of the Under-23s to head out on loan during the January transfer window.

Winger Tunde Bayode joined National League North Curzon Ashton on Monday meaning he will ply his trade until the end of the campaign at the same ground as Burnley’s youngsters play their home games.

Adam Phillips and Ryan Cooney have both joined Morecambe, Christian N’Guessan has also moved to League Two with Oldham Athletic while Scott Wilson has headed to Blyth Spartans in the National League North to get some first team experience.

Elsewhere Jimmy Dunne has returned from his loan spell at Fleetwood and has been linked with Bolton.
