BURNLEY have recalled defender Jimmy Dunne from his loan spell at Fleetwood.

The 22-year-old initially moved to Highbury on a season-long deal but is now back at Turf Moor having played 11 times under former Claret Joey Barton.

Dunne had not featured in a League One game since the start of November with his last two appearances coming in the EFL Trophy wins against Oldham and Everton's Under-21s.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international scored one goal for Fleetwood in a 3-3 draw at Southend back in September.

Dunne could be on the move again during the January transfer window with Ben Gibson and Kevin Long already waiting in the wings behind first-choice central defensive pairing Ben Mee and James Tarkowski.

The Fleetwood move was seen as the latest step in the former Manchester United man's development at Turf Moor.

His first loan spell took him to Barrow before he was part of the Accrington Stanley side that won the League Two title in 2018, Dunne making 20 appearances in all for John Coleman's side.

Last season he spent the first half of the campaign with Hearts up in Scotland before moving to Sunderland.
