ANDY Carroll has refuted claims that he should have been sent off against Burnley and labelled the game “disgusting”.

The Clarets got back to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Newcastle, Chris Wood scoring his seventh of the season just before the hour mark.

Many in Turf Moor felt the Magpies striker should have been dismissed for an elbow on Ben Mee, Sean Dyche among those confused as to why Tim Robinson only showed a yellow card.

When asked about the possibility of being sent off, Carroll said: “No, definitely not.”

On a wintery East Lancashire day, the game wasn’t one that will live long in the memory, referee Robinson, on his Premier League debut drawing criticism from both sides.

Steve Bruce’s men were not happy with the run up to the first goal, Wood heading home Ashley Westwood’s corner.

“Let’s face it, it was a disgusting game,” said Carroll, Newcastle captain on the day.

“The weather was terrible, the referee gave decisions against us.

“We gave everything we could give, but it was a poor game. It’s hard to keep your cool in those situations, really hard. There were decisions they got that we didn’t get and it’s frustrating.

“The one that led to their goal was the worst. There were poor decisions all the way through from the ref and that led to their goal, it wasn’t a corner.

“The ref has given a corner after he had given a goal kick and it was a foul on Federico (Fernandez).

“We tried to get the equaliser and push on. But there were lots of decision we didn’t get and it kills the game for us.

“We’re very frustrated. We did everything we could. It was clearly a draw all day.”
