Burnley made it back-to-back 3-0 victories in the Premier League with a win that sent Watford to the bottom of the pile.

Chris Wood, Ashley Barnes and James Tarkowski got the goals. Below we take a look at some of the talking points.

Wood and Barnes a match made in heaven

Many thought the Chris Wood and Ashley Barnes axis would be broken up this season with the arrival of Jay Rodriguez.

While the returning hero has impressed, the two in possession of the striking berths remain very much the go-to men for Sean Dyche.

After a frustrating afternoon both got themselves on the scoresheet here to make it 30 goals in their last 30 starts playing together, a stat that underlines just what a formidable duo they have become.

Like all good frontmen despite a lack of service in the first period they came alive when their chances came, Wood scoring with the Clarets’ first meaningful effort before Barnes got in on the act, winning a VAR-assisted penalty before just about getting the better of Ben Foster from 12 yards.

Still defensive concerns – but job done

The previous away game against Sheffield United had set some alarm bells ringing about the Burnley backline.

The 3-0 defeat led to changes at full back with both playing their part in the subsequent 3-0 win over West Ham at Turf Moor.

Here, the back four were again stretched at times, Gerard Deulofeu a particular menace with some fine last-ditch defending and necessary fouls needed to halt his progress.

James Tarkowski’s performance was up and down before his goal while Phil Bardsley and Charlie Taylor stuck to their task down the flanks.

With Nick Pope outstanding behind them, the Clarets were also indebted to some strong leadership from skipper Ben Mee who marshalled his troops through a tricky spell before only being denied a goal in the second half by a fine defensive header from Adrian Mariappa.

Team will have to change against Palace

To the surprise of absolutely no-one, Sean Dyche named an unchanged team after the win over West Ham.

But Ashley Westwood’s booking for dissent means he will serve a one-game ban against Crystal Palace after reaching five bookings.

That leaves Dyche with a decision to make in the middle of the park. Danny Drinkwater travelled to Vicarage Road as an extra man, not named on the bench, but isn’t quite ready yet.

We could also see Jeff Hendrick move inside with a wide player, Robbie Brady or Aaron Lennon with Johann Berg Gudmundsson also not fit, come in.

Jay Rodriguez, bright off the bench at Vicarage Road, looks an unlikely choice given it would mean a change in system. A vital cog in the Clarets wheel, Westwood will be missed though.
