Rich Sharpe hands out his player ratings from Rovers' 3-2 win over Barnsley.

Christian Walton 5

Poor handling led to the second Barnsley equaliser, beaten by the power of Chaplin’s shot for the first. Good saves to deny Woodrow, one in either half. Safe under the high ball, but handling not convincing at times.

Elliott Bennett 5

Given a tough second half following the introduction of Chaplin at the break. One excellent first half tackle stopped a counter-attack, but delivery in to the final third not effective. Was pinned back for the majority of the second.

Tosin Adarabioyo 6

Came up with some excellent clearing headers. His passing ranged from outstanding to sloppy, too often playing loose balls in to the central area of the pitch.

Darragh Lenihan 6

His header that led to Dack’s winner and with long balls forward, Rovers looked more assured with him there, winning seven headers in all. Caught out of possession for the first Barnsley equaliser.

Amari’i Bell 5

Failed to take advantage of the acres of space he was afforded in the first half. Poor clearances late on drew more pressure on Rovers. Completed just 18 of his 44 passes.

Lewis Travis 7

Had to get through plenty of work, not least in a second half where Barnsley dominated the central area. Was his interceptions that led to the first two goals. Had a second half shot deflected over.

Lewis Holtby 6

Unfortunate not to win a penalty early on. His movement off the ball helped create some neat passing opportunities. Subbed at a time when Rovers were getting over-run in midfield.

Sam Gallagher 5

Toiled away on the right flank, working back to his own corner flag. Dragged a first half shot well wide in a rare sight of goal. Unfortunate to be booked for diving. Few mazy runs brought no end product.

Bradley Dack 7

Remains the go-to man, and his late winner showed his goalscoring instincts, denied initially by Rudlinger before forcing the rebound over the line. Was on the front foot to sniff out the chance of an opening goal. Not much else went his way, but that goalscoring knack sets him apart.

Joe Rothwell 6

Always looking to go forward and be positive where possible, but it was his workrate off the ball that really stepped up. A first home start of the season, he will hope that is the springboard for more. His blocked shot led to Downing's goal, but a little more end product needed.

Adam Armstrong 5

Tendency to be offside was a source of frustration in the first half. Showed good awareness to square for Dack for the opener. Needed more confidence to run at his marker in the wide areas.

Subs

Danny Graham (for Sam Gallagher, 62) 6

Unselfishly tried to square for Armstrong when clean through. His hold up play afforded Rovers the chance to get up the pitch.

Stewart Downing (for Lewis Holtby, 62) 7

Came up with his first league goal for the club, an excellent strike on his unfavoured right foot. Was his free kick that led to Dack's winner.

John Buckley (for Joe Rothwell, 79) 5

Barnsley were looking lively down their left, with Buckley sent on to try and help contain that.
