Chris Wood, Ashley Barnes and James Tarkowski got the goals as Burnley picked up their first away win of the season with a 3-0 victory at Watford.

Nick Pope also impressed between the sticks on a day where Sean Dyche’s side had to weather a storm before coming out on top.

Nick Pope 8

Two key saves in the first half from Gerard Deulofeu proved key, the second on the stroke of half-time particularly eye-catching. Good handling helped remove pressure on a day where he underlined his England credentials with a fine display.

Phil Bardsley 6

Came under something on an aerial bombardment in the first half but stuck to his task well.

James Tarkowski 7

A real mixed bag from the centre half, an error nearly gifted Deulofeu a goal. Then produced an excellent block from Hughes at a key time before scoring third goal late on.

Ben Mee 7

Booked for dissent in the first half but he led the backline well on a day where they were stretched at times.

Charlie Taylor 7

One challenge stopped a dangerous Deulofeu break, and got up and down in support of McNeil when he could, gaining good ground in the second half.

Jeff Hendrick 6

Struggled to have a real impact on the game and saw Jose Holebas gallop past him with regularity. Spurned a good chance to make it 2-0 after some excellent footwork.

Ashley Westwood 6

Continually tried to keep Burnley ticking over as is his way. Booked for dissent and a bit loose in possession on occasions.

Jack Cork 6

Wanted too much time on the ball at times with one error setting up a dangerous counter attack.

Dwight McNeil 7

Early runs were a rare bright spark in the first half and it was his corner that led to Wood’s goal. Sometimes struggled defensively.

Ashley Barnes 7

Battled hard in support of Wood and won the late penalty after a largely frustrating afternoon before converting from the spot.

Chris Wood 7

Starved of service at times but popped up with the vital goal when required to make it six for the season. Replaced by Jay Rodriguez with 15 minutes to play.

Jay Rodriguez 7

Was busy in the closing stages and unlucky not to score with an effort coming off the bar after Pope’s long ball over the top.
