BURNLEY midfielder Jeff Hendrick says talks are “definitely active” with the club over a new contract with his currently deal running out at the end of the season.

The Republic of Ireland international moved to Turf Moor in 2016 for a then club-record £10million fee and has since gone on to make more than 100 appearances for the Clarets.

Hendrick said: “The talks are definitely active. I’ve said it since I’ve come in – it’s a great group and I love coming into training every day.

“It’s sort of easy with the group we have and I’m enjoying my football too.

“The main thing is to enjoy your football – it’s not a long career so you need to make sure you enjoy every minute.”

The 27-year-old was not selected for three of Burnley’s opening four Premier League games, but a return to the team in the middle of September has seen him feature six times, scoring two goals.

And with continuous praise from boss Sean Dyche, Hendrick says he knows what to do to stay in the side.

“It’s always good to hear,” he said ahead of Saturday’s game at Sheffield United.

“All players want that little confidence boost and when I’m not in the team I know what I need to do.

“I need to keep working hard and stay ready – I think that’s the main thing here.

“You can start a game when you’re not expecting it, so you need to be ready. If you don’t take your chance you could be waiting a few weeks to get it again.”
