BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche says Chris Wood remains a doubt for the Clarets’ trip to Sheffield United.

The striker missed the 4-2 defeat at home to Chelsea last time out with Jay Rodriguez coming into the side and making his mark with a stunning goal.

Elsewhere on the injury front, Phil Bardsley is struggling with a back problem and Johann Berg Gudmundsson remains a few weeks away from a return with his own hamstring injury.

“Chris Wood’s touch and go,” said Dyche ahead of the game at Bramall Lane.

“He’s making a good recovery but you always get those moments of decision, should we, shouldn’t we?

“The player’s included in that and we’ll talk to him over the next 24 hours about that.

“Bardo’s got a tight back. He obviously hasn’t been starting but he’s been in the squad. We’ll have to see how that settles down.

“Johann is making good progress but is still going to be weeks not days. They are the main three at the moment.”

Chelsea loanee Danny Drinkwater is back in training after his ankle injury and building up his fitness as he looks to finally get his Clarets career up and running.

“Drinky is getting fitter, his injury is just about right now,” Dyche said.

“Now it’s going to be real fitness. He’s been joining in the training, adapting to that, he’ll probably need another week at least to join in regular training and the demands of that and then it’s games beyond that.

“He’s injury free at the current time and that gives him a more balanced situation to push on.”

Dyche wouldn’t be drawn on the Premier League winner’s future, with his loan set to expire in January, the 29-year-old’s one and only Clarets appearance having come in the EFL Cup defeat at the hands of Sunderland back in August.

“We weren’t thinking it was going to transpire as it has done,” said the Burnley boss.

“That leaves it in a different place that it could have been if he’d been fit and well and either playing or figuring.

“We’ll figure that out (his future) as we go from here.”
