Sam Gallagher admits the Rovers players haven’t done themselves justice this season having slipped to 17th in the Championship.

Rovers went a sixth game without a win against Preston North End as despite leading 2-0 at half time, a fightback from the hosts saw them take all three points at Deepdale.

Gallagher scored Rovers’ second of the afternoon, his first league goal since re-joining the club this summer, but Rovers once again failed to take advantage of a winning position.

However, the striker says now isn’t the time for looking back, instead focusing on looking to put things right in the two games before the November international break.

He said: “We have to take responsibility. You look at the games this season, we’ve had spells in every game where we’ve looked good.

“We’re not doing ourselves justice in terms of where we are at this moment.

“We’re not far off it, in my opinion, but at the same time, the results just haven’t come.

“You have to look at the games ahead and look to pick up points.

“It’s not healthy to sometimes look back on games like Charlton and Luton at home.

“We need to work hard for ourselves, each other and the manager. That’s what we have to do.”

Things were looking up for Rovers as they raced in to a two-goal lead inside 12 minutes, including an excellent finish from Gallagher.

But the game turned on a mistake by Rovers goalkeeper Christian Walton, with Daniel Johnson levelling things up from the penalty spot before Tom Barkhuizen’s second of the afternoon eight minutes from time completed the turnaround.

Boss Tony Mowbray was critical of the officiating, and while Gallagher admits that was a source of frustration, says that can’t be used an excuse for what transpired in the second half.

“It seemed like a completely different game from us in the second half. Everyone says how a 2-0 lead is a dangerous scoreline,” he told the club website.

“When you’re away from home and they get that first goal, the atmosphere changes and they get that boost that they need. After what happened, we’re obviously devastated.

“The first goal is key for them. At 2-1 you felt the swing.

“But we were still in control of the game at that point. It turned into one of those days.

“A lot of the decisions didn’t go our way, but we can’t blame the result on that.”
