BLACKBURN Hawks went down 4-0 at home to Solway Sharks in their latest NIHL Moralee North One Division outing on Sunday.

The hosts never recovered from going down 3-0 at the end of the first period with a fourth coming in the third to seal a comfortable victory for the visitors.

Hawks had teenage netminder Harrison Walker to thank for the goal difference not being much greater on the day, his stock rising every week.

Sharks took the victory thanks to two goals from Peter Gapa and one apiece from Lewis Houston and Scott Henderson.

The result means Hawks have won just one of their opening five games this season and sit sixth in the early seven-team standings.

Blackburn are now not in action again until Sutton Sting come to town on November 2.

Away from the action, for the second home game running there were around 500 families in attendance to watch the Hawks’ meeting with the Sharks.

Community liaison officer Chris Riley has been working hard to give people their first taste of ice hockey, visiting schools all over Lancashire with Hawks’ recently retired record goalscorer Ollie Lomax.

Lynne Martin, of St Matthew’s Church of England Primary School in Blackburn, said: “We invited Blackburn Hawks in to deliver an assembly and it was a huge hit with children and staff.

“Everyone was talking about it for the rest of the week.

“Chris delivers a fun, interactive and insightful presentation. We can’t recommend this enough.”
