Rovers defender Matty Platt has joined National League side Barrow on a season-long loan.

Platt will return to the club where he spent the final months of the 2016/17 campaign.

The 21-year-old started Rovers’ Carabao Cup win over Oldham Athletic earlier this month having been in the matchday squad for the Championship defeat at Fulham three days earlier.

He also played in all three of Rovers’ Checkatrade Trophy matches two seasons ago and signed a new one-year deal in the summer.

This will be the fourth loan move of his career but third in non-league after finishing last season with Southport in National League North.

He did join Accrington Stanley at the start of last season but made just one Carabao Cup appearance before being recalled in January.

Platt will link-up with former Rovers Under-23s captain Lewis Hardcastle at Barrow and is the third defender to leave the club on loan in this window after Tyler Magloire moved to League One side Rochdale while League Two outfit Northampton signed Scott Wharton on a season-long deal.

Their departures will likely mean Joe Grayson, who was on the bench at Sheffield United on Tuesday, will stay at the club to offer defensive cover having finished last season with Grimsby Town.
