TONY Mowbray is not overly concerned with Rovers’ lack of league goals – and says it is not for lack of effort.

Rovers have scored just three times in four outings this term including back-to-back 1-0 wins over Middlesbrough and Hull City.

Derrick Williams became just the second Rovers player this season, after Danny Graham’s penalty against Middlesbrough to score in the league – with an own goal on the opening day against Charlton completing their three goals to date.

But Mowbray says it is an area his players are always working on and always looking to improve.

Rovers, who host Cardiff City at Ewood Park this afternoon, hit the woodwork three times against Hull while Bradley Dack has had more efforts on goal than any other player in the Championship without scoring.

“I don’t think it ever stops, working on trying to score more goals,” boss Mowbray told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“It’s what wins you football matches, putting the ball in the back of the net and we are very mindful that we have not scored enough goals. There is that stat that Bradley has had most shots in this division but has not scored a goal.

“The fact that he has had the most shots is pretty encouraging but that fact the he has not scored a goal yet is not encouraging so he will be hungry to get off the mark.”

He added: “I am not overly concerned. Arsenal won Premier League titles with ‘1-0 to the Arsenal’ so you only need to score one more than your opposition.

“You keep a clean sheet and that will be okay but we would like to score more goals with the opportunities that we have had, I counted hitting the woodwork four times.

“But it will be okay as long as we are having those efforts, as long as we are creating the chances, as long as we get the ball in the right areas, the goals will come, we keep believing and we keep going.”

Rovers have had 11 shots on target and 41 off target in their four league games but Mowbray is certain the likes of Adam Armstrong and Sam Gallagher - signed on a permanent deal from Southampton - as well as Dack will soon open their goal-scoring account.

“I am sure they will all score goals - it is early in the season,” said Mowbray. “Sam is still finding his feet. He probably hasn’t got a house yet, still living in a hotel.

“I’ve talked about that when you sign players, their lives have to adapt.

“The fans only see them on a Saturday afternoon playing on the pitch. They are probably living in a hotel, eating food they properly wouldn’t choose to eat themselves if they were at home cooking.

“Sleeping in a bed that is a bit false. It is quite nice for a week or two but a hotel it is not a home.

“We’ll see, there are a few players like that I think. Still adapting, that is why I was not overly concerned.

“I will not be overly concerned whatever way it goes. If we win the next 10 games I won’t be shouting from the roof tops that we are going to do this and do that.”
