Rovers were one of several Championship clubs linked with a move for Hibs striker Oli Shaw - a transfer rumour rubbished by Easter Road boss Paul Heckingbottom.

Reports in Scotland named Rovers as one of the clubs tracking the 20-year-old who scored seven goals in 32 games last season. It was reported that while there had been no bids, there was interest in Shaw who has two years left to run on his contract.

However, Heckingbottom says there is no truth to those reports about the Scotland youth international and has challenged the striker to become a regular in a Hibs shirt.

“What do you want me to say on it?” he told Edinburgh News.

“The amount of stuff I read that’s rubbish. No-one has spoken to me, whether it’s someone trying to drum up interest.

“It’s down to Oli, he’s certainly come back in much better nick than he finished the season in.

“We were really clear in what we wanted and it’s down to him to get into the team, there is a pathway there.

“If he is performing well he will be in the team.”

Rovers faced Hibernian last summer in their opening pre-season friendly. Goals from Craig Conway and Willem Tomlinson gave Tony Mowbray's side a 2-0 win.

Mowbray is still highly regarded in Edinburgh after his time at Easter Road where he won 52 of his 108 games in charge between May 2004 and October 2006.
