Rovers captain Charlie Mulgrew has been included in the Scotland squad ahead of their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers – despite currently being injured.
Mulgrew has sustained a grade one hamstring injury which is expected to rule him out of games with Wigan and Sheffield Wednesday this week.
The 33-year-old has also suffered with a groin problem earlier this calendar year, though has started the last six Championship matches. His latest injury came in the second half of Saturday’s defeat to Preston.
Mulgrew has been named in Alex McLeish’s 27-man squad for games with Kazakhstan and San Marino, and the national team boss said: "We have a good feeling about Charlie. He has always put himself on the line and he's very confident that he's going to be okay."
The set piece specialist is one of three central defenders currently out injured, along with Darragh Lenihan and Jack Rodwell – with neither of them expected to feature before the international break.
Rovers will be keen to keep Mulgrew around so to try and ensure he is fit enough to face Aston Villa when the Championship schedule resumes on March 30.
Mulgrew has won 39 caps in all for his country.
