Tony Mowbray chose not to be critical of his side despite throwing away two more points, stating: ‘We’re doing great’.

Rovers looked on course for three points against Birmingham City after goals from Danny Graham and Adam Armstrong.

But in the end they had to settle for a draw as a Craig Gardner penalty and a Che Adams finish in the space of two minutes drew the visitors level.

David Raya will have been disappointed with his role in the penalty, while Rovers were too open in the move which led to Adams’ equaliser.

Mowbray’s men have had a habit of throwing away points this season, having led in 14 of their 22 matches so far, but recorded only seven victories.

When asked about that, Mowbray said: “I’m not going to criticise anyone. The team have been amazing this season.

“We came out of League One and we’re 22 games in and only five points off the play-offs. We’re doing great.”

Three points against Garry Monk’s side would have been a fillip for Rovers heading into a tough run of games.

They face promotion-chasing quartet Norwich City, Leeds United, Sheffield United and West Brom in their next four fixtures, starting with a home game against the Canaries before a Boxing Day trip to Elland Road.

“We have big tests coming up, we have the top four to come over the next couple of weeks,” Mowbray added.

“We have some big, big games, Norwich coming up this weekend, but they are ones that we should be looking forward to.

“After those four games we’ll see how we’re doing.”

Rovers sit just inside the top half of the table ahead of their testing run but they can take encouragement from their performances against the top sides of the division so far.

Having played seven of the current top eight, Rovers have been beaten just once, by Sheffield United, and recorded five draws as well as the home win over Leeds United.

“We’ve done all right against the top teams,” Mowbray said.

“Those games we have got ourselves up for.

“We’ve already beaten Leeds United this season, Villa got a last minute equaliser against us, we drew at West Brom, and with the group we’ve got I’m sure we’ll give a good showing against our next four opponents.”
