Garry Monk says Rovers’ strong home form made his side’s comeback all the more impressive.

Birmingham rallied from 2-0 down courtesy of a Craig Gardner penalty and Che Adams close-range finish saw them snatch an unlikely point.

Rovers looked well on course for three points courtesy of goals from Danny Graham and Adam Armstrong.

David Raya fouled Maxime Colin for the penalty which Gardner scored in the 78th minute, with Adams’ equaliser coming just two minutes later.

On his assessment of the game, Monk said: “Being 2-0 down, you have to have the right desire and character to respond. We showed that same character and attitude that we have shown throughout the whole season, it was an excellent response from my players and it’s an excellent point.

“We came in at half-time a goal down and we spoke about what we needed to do in the second-half to get back in the game, but then we went 2-0 down within sixty seconds of the restart, which didn’t make it any easier.

“You need to show character and we did fantastically to get ourselves back level and we could have gone on to get the third.

“I think overall considering how good Blackburn have been (at home), the record they have is there to see and to come away with that point in the circumstances and conditions that game was played is a brilliant point.”

The game was played in testing conditions, with heavy rain throughout, as well as a swirling wind and freezing temperatures.

Monk felt Rovers dealt with that better, as he was left particularly disappointed with his side’s first half display.

He added: “We were poor in the first-half. The conditions were very difficult for both teams.

“They got the basics right in the first-half, much better than we did, defending situations, with conviction, being strong. Keeping it simple and doing the basic stuff.

“And then to concede at the start of the second-half made it very difficult for us.

“You then need character, and belief, trust in the players that they have that - and they did.

“We showed a fantastic response and scored a fantastic second goal and it looked like we might get a third.

“I thought we dealt with everything that came our way and got a point that merited our second-half fightback.”
