Rovers’ FA Cup third round tie at Newcastle United in January was one of 14 to be moved for overseas TV coverage.

The game will still be played on Saturday, January 5, but rather than the originally scheduled 3pm kick off, the game was moved to 5.30pm.

Rovers will be compensated for the game being moved, with both teams receiving £50,000 as part of the overseas television rights.

On offer for the winner of the tie is a place in the fourth round and a further £135,000 in prize money.

The changes for overseas coverage mean that just 10 of the 32 third round ties will kick off on Saturday, January 5 at 3pm.

A Rovers club spokesman said: “The Football Association have informed both clubs that the change to the kick-off time is due to the game being selected for live broadcast overseas.

“Should a replay be required, this will be played at Ewood Park on Tuesday, January 15.”

The two teams last met in the FA Cup at this stage in January 2012, when Newcastle came from behind to win 2-1.

But Rovers have happier recent memories against the Magpies, winning 1-0 courtesy of Charlie Mulgrew goals both home and away in the 2016/17 Championship season.

Ticket prices have been set for the game at £10 for adults, and £5 for concessions. However, prices will increase to £20 and £10 respectively on the day.
