Tony Mowbray revealed fourth official Andrew Madley was key to the decision to send off Middlesbrough midfielder Mo Besic.

It appeared as though the Bosnian had escaped without punishment after pulling back Dack when running in on goal.

Referee Simon Hooper appeared to miss the incident, with Mowbray stating that the fourth official played a part in the decision to show Besic a red card.

Boro boss Tony Pulis fumed about the decision, believing a yellow card would have been sufficient.

But opposite number Mowbray felt it was a clear goalscoring opportunity that Dack was denied.

“The referee didn’t see, he didn’t even think it was a foul,” he said.

“But from where I was there was a clear shirt pull.

“The fourth official is stood next to me and the referee couldn’t see it, but from the side view the fourth official could see the shirt being pulled away from his body.

“So he (the fourth official) told the referee that he pulled his shirt and he (Dack) was running through on goal and he sent him off. I think they got the right decision between them.”

Rovers scored from the resulting free kick as Charlie Mulgrew curled home his fifth goal of the season.

That looked to have given Mowbray's side the platform to go on and win, only for Britt Assombalonga to equalise for the 10-man hosts just after the hour.

“It seemed very clear,” Mowbray added of the red card.

“We were pressing high, Bradley nicked it off him and he pulls his shirt off his back, though the referee didn’t see it.

“But the disappointment is that we weren’t able to get the three points because I felt we defended pretty stoutly at times, the odd daft mistake, but it was a brilliant goal that got them a point.”
