A date has been confirmed for Rovers’ FA Cup third round tie at Newcastle United.

The game at St James’ Park has been set for Saturday, January 5.

However, the game will now kick off at 5.30pm after the tie was selected for live TV broadcast overseas.

A club spokesman said: "Our FA Cup third round clash with Newcastle United will now kick-off at the later time of 5.30pm on Saturday 5th January 2019.

"The Football Association have informed both clubs that the change to the kick-off time is due to the game being selected for live broadcast overseas."

The two teams were paired together in Monday’s draw for the third round matches, having previously been drawn together at this stage of the competition in 2012 when the Magpies won 2-1.

Should a replay be required, the tie will be played at Ewood Park on Tuesday, January 15 (7.45pm).

Rovers have fond memories of their most recent trip to the north east, winning 1-0 in November 2016, while Charlie Mulgrew also netted the winner in a New Year’s Day victory at Ewood over Rafael Benitez's side in January 2017.

Ticket prices are expected to be confirmed in the new year.
