Tony Mowbray says Danny Graham is among the best one-touch finishers he’s worked with after the Rovers striker netted a hat-trick in the win over Sheffield Wednesday.

Graham scored three close range finishes, two of which were rebounds after Bradley Dack had seen one shot saved and another come back off the post.

His third was a much simpler task, tapping home from Dack’s square pass, but Mowbray was delighted with the 33-year-old who took his tally to eight for the season.

And the boss wishes he had worked with the striker earlier in his career having moved to 162 goals with his trio on Saturday.

“They’re not easy to score when they ricochet so fast back at you like that. Danny is a special finisher,” Mowbray said of the frontman.

“I’ve been in football all my life since leaving school and Danny Graham is as good a one-touch finisher as I’ve seen.

“I’ve said to him that I’d like to have had him at 25. Wow. He was like Usain Bolt, running down the right wing for a spell there, he was flying.

“Graham with his finishing, with his composure in the box amongst bodies to clinically hit the target when he needs to.

“It’s great that Bradley has the technique to hit the target, hit the post, or make the goalkeeper work. So many players lash things and they go into the crowd.

“We’ve got some quality at the top end of the pitch and it was evident.

“It was a performance we should all be proud of.”

Dack had a hand in all three of Graham’s goal, as well as scoring his 11th of the season to put Rovers 2-0 ahead early in the second half.

The 24-year-old had been below par in defeats at Preston and Wigan, and Mowbray added: “Me and Brad had a five-minute chat this week.

“I told him the reasons why I signed him and this kid who was like a whirlwind playing for Gillingham, who even though his team were 4-0 down was the best player, tackling everybody in his own box, in the opposition box and scoring goals.

“And that’s what I said to him this week, I need to see this Tasmanian devil tackling everyone, too good, too strong, too fast.

“He would have liked to score one of those himself I’m sure and see one of those shots flying in.”
