OH well. You can't win them all.

And nor can you fault Steve Cotterill for selecting a side which had "attack" written all the way through it.

Of the starting line-up, five of the 10 outfield players were attack minded.

With Kyle Lafterty on the left wing, Wade Elliott on the right, Alan Mahon down the middle and Robbie Blake and Andy Gray up top, this was a line-up selected to ask questions of Crystal Palace.

Lafferty has clearly bulked up over the summer and physically, is a much tougher proposition than he was last season.

Numerous were the occasions when the 20-year-old out-muscled Palace right back Danny Butterfield.

His final ball was hit and miss, but in the same way that Emile Heskey was occasionally asked to help out on the left wing for England under Sven Goran Eriksson, Lafferty is doing a similar job for his manager.

Also encouraging were the instances when the Northern Ireland international cut inside and got away a couple of ferocious drives. On another day Lafferty might have bagged a brace.

Just inside Lafferty was Alan Mahon. This has been a good seven days for the Irishman.

Against Portsmouth on Tuesday and Palace on Saturday, Mahon showed the kind of form that got supporters excited about his arrival 18 months ago.

It's not unfair to say that up until now his time at the Turf has been disappointing.

However, in the last week he has shown what he is capable of. More please.

Yet well though both Lafferty and Mahon did, I am minded to agree with Steve Cotterill that the man of the match was Robbie Blake.

Quite aside from laying on the perfect delivery for Duff's equaliser, the number 20 was at the hub of most of Burnley's best moves.

When the ball is played into his feet, there are few players in the Championship who are as adept at slicing open a defence or conjuring up a moment of potentially match-winning magic as Blake.

Despite picking up just the one point on Saturday, the Clarets are still handily placed in the Championship table.

And tonight's visit of Ipswich Town affords Burnley the opportunity to further improve on what has been a solid start to the campaign.

The respective goals for and goals against column for both Burnley and the Tractor Boys would suggest that tonight's game could see a glut of goals - be sure to put your money on a goalless draw.
