Charlie Mulgrew says the most important thing is now the reaction to Saturday’s defeat at Preston.

The Rovers skipper says the players and staff have studied what went wrong in the 4-1 loss at Deepdale and will aim to put that right at Wigan tomorrow.

Mulgrew made his return from injury as one of three changes to the Rovers back four who were below their usual standards, according to boss Tony Mowbray.

Reviewing the weekend, the 32-year-old said: “It was disappointing.

“We have looked back at the video and areas we can improve and get better on and we’re looking for a response tomorrow night.

“We have reacted well usually and that’s what we’ll be looking to do again.

“We had to get over it quickly, we looked back at the game and the most important thing is how you react to these situations and that’s what we’ll be looking to do.”

Rovers conceded twice in the opening 10 minutes, while an 11 minutes double salvo in the second half scuppered any hopes of a comeback.

“Once we lost those two goals it was always going to be difficult but we kept fighting,” Mulgrew added.

“We got a goal back and then we left ourselves a bit open and conceded two more.

“There was a lot of disappointment, the changing room was low, one of the lowest points for a couple of seasons but we need to learn from it and get on with it.”

Wigan beat Rovers to the League One title by one point last season, but Mulgrew says the 2017/18 campaign is firmly in the past.

He added: “That’s done and dusted now. We’re happy with where we are.

“It would have been nice to win the league but the most important thing was getting up and that was our aim for the season.

“We’re delighted that we got up and it’s about this season now and try and get the three points.”
