BEN Mee admitted it came as no consolation to concede goals to quality opposition in Manchester City and Chelsea, and is hoping Burnley can put their sticky spell behind them.

The Clarets went into their last game at Leicester having lost three on the spin, with the last of that run away to West Ham United, and conceded 13 goals in the process.

But a goalless draw at the King Power Stadium is what Mee and his team-mates are preferring to focus on now as they build into the busy - and often defining - Christmas period, starting with Monday night’s visit of Newcastle United.

“We just want to get back to winning ways. It will be good to get back home and looked to build on this, especially with the back four-back five,” said Mee, with reference to Burnley’s third clean sheet of the season.

“We don’t want to concede that amount of goals and it’s not like us to do that (no matter who it is against).

“We’re usually hard to beat and tough to play against.

“In previous years we’ve put up a really good fight against the top teams so we know we can and that’s where we want to be at.”

And Mee said the team, as a whole, had been accountable and working hard to put it right, not just the defensive unit.

“We’ve discussed everything, the whole team, we defend as a team and we attack as a team, we’ve always done that,” said the skipper.

“The lads up top defend as much as we do.”

Mee is now looking to continue Burnley’s good work at Leicester in the run-up to the festive period, with three trips to London in the six games that fall between now and Christmas Day.

Asked whether the latest international break had come at a good time in preparation for their busy schedule, Mee said: “We don’t really mind either way to be honest.

“It’s quite bitty this part of the season anyway, four games on and a week off. And then we’re into the busy Christmas period so we’ll prepare for that.”
