THE Clarets have played eight Premier League games on a Monday with tonight's clash with Newcastle representing a chance to record just a third win of the season.

Burnley have won three of those fixtures, including a home win over the Magpies, while losing the other five.

Here, we take a look back at the Clarets' Monday matches.

Burnley 1 Liverpool 2, January 1, 2018

THE last time the Clarets played a Premier League game on a Monday was on New Year's Day with Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool in town.

And it was late heartache for Burnley when Ragan Klavan scored a last minute winner for the Reds.

Liverpool led through Sadio Mane's strike on the hour but Johann Berg Gudmundsson looked to have rescued a point for the Clarets when he equalised three minutes from the end.

But there was still time for Klavan to win it with a close-range header.

Burnley 1 Newcastle 0, October 30, 2017

A REPEAT of tonight's clash was also on a Monday night last season when the Clarets hosted Newcastle.

Sean Dyche's side had started the season well and continued their good form with a battling 1-0 win courtesy of a Jeff Hendrick winner 16 minutes from time.

The game marked the fifth anniversary of Dyche's Turf Moor tenure and he was able to celebrate with three points.

A repeat scoreline tonight would go down very nicely indeed.

Manchester City 2 Burnley 1, January 2, 2017

BURNLEY pushed Pep Guardiola's men all the way in their first game of 2017.

The Bank Holiday afternoon fixture had plenty of incident with City reduced to 10 men on the half hour when Fernandinho saw red for a rash tackle on Johann Berg Gudmundsson.

The scores were level at the break but two goals in four second half minutes from Gael Clichy and Sergio Aguero sent the home side on their way.

Ben Mee reduced the deficit 20 minutes from time but Burnley couldn't force a leveller.

Burnley 1 Middlesbrough 0, December 26, 2016

ALTHOUGH not a night fixture, this festive clash was played on a Monday and it was Burnley who emerged victorious.

Andre Gray scored the only goal of the game 10 minutes from time to settle a scrappy game when his shot squirmed past Boro keeper Victor Valdes.

The points moved the Clarets up to 14th in the table and above their visitors after the pair had been promoted to the Premier League together the previous season.

West Brom 4 Burnley 0, November 21, 2016

A NIGHT to forget in the Midlands for Burnley.

The Clarets were unbeaten in three heading into the fixture and had picked up a credible point at Old Trafford in their previous away game.

But they weren't at the races against the Baggies and slipped to a heavy defeat.

Matt Phillips and James Morrison had the home side two up inside 16 minutes before Darren Fletcher made it three before the break.

Salomon Rondon completed the scoring in the second half.

Burnley 2 Watford 0, September 26, 2016

A FIRST win for Burnley on a Monday night in the Premier League came against the Hornets.

The Clarets had collected five points from their opening five games on their return to the top flight and picked up three more thanks to a goal in each half.

Jeff Hendrick opened the scoring seven minutes before the interval and Michael Keane made it two early in the second half as Sean Dyche celebrated a win against his former club.

Burnley 1 Chelsea 3, August 18, 2014

THE Clarets kicked off their return to the Premier League with a glamour game against Chelsea at Turf Moor.

It was a memorable night in East Lancashire and Scott Arfield's superb strike put Sean Dyche's side in front after 14 minutes.

But Chelsea, who went on to win the title under Jose Mourinho, struck back with three goals in 17 minutes before the break.

Diego Costa equalised just three minutes after the home side went in front before Andre Schurrle and Branislav Ivanovic made the points safe.

Everton 2 Burnley 0, December 28, 2009

BURNLEY'S first taste of Monday night football in the Premier League came over the Christmas period in 2009 at Everton.

The Clarets were in the midst of what would be a 13-game winless run in the top flight and they left Goodison Park with nothing to show for their efforts for following a 2-0 defeat.

The visitors saw Stephen Jordan sent off just after the hour and battled manfully but two goals in the final eight minutes from James Vaughan and Steven Pienaar gave the home side the points.
