LAURA Massaro suffered a shock second round defeat at the Hong Kong Squash Open.

The East Lancashire ace was beaten by unseeded Egyptian Yathreb Adel in 32 minutes.

Massaro’s run to the final at this tournament back in 2015 kicked off a four-month spell at World No.1, but the 35-year-old slumped to an early exit this time around after losing in four games to her Egyptian opponent.

The World No.4 was out of sorts in the opening stages and just couldn’t get her game going as she quickly fell to a two-game deficit.

Massaro improved in the third to close the gap, but Adel took control once again in the fourth to complete an 11-5, 11-6, 12-14, 11-3 victory.

"I knew what to expect from Laura, I've watched some of our previous matches to see what I was doing wrong at the time," said Adel.

"I had to keep the momentum going because I lost it in the third game. I was leading but then she fired back and I did some unforced errors and she was getting back into her game."

Massaro’s next tournament will be the Monte-Carlo Classic which runs from December 3-7.
