Away supporters at Ewood Park will now be situated in the upper tier of the Darwen End, providing they bring fewer than 2,000 fans.

Rovers say a decision will made on a game-by-game basis, depending upon projected away ticket sales for future Ewood fixtures.

QPR’s travelling 564 fans were housed in the top tier of the Darwen End, with the bottom tier remaining empty, as will be the case for tomorrow’s game with Rotherham United.

A decision was taken this season that saw Rovers fans unable to buy season tickets in a corner of the Darwen End which was designated as solely an away end following the club’s return to the Championship.

A club spokesman said: “The away fans will be situated in the upper tier of the Darwen End going forward, providing they are bringing less than 2,000 supporters.

“Sheffield Wednesday fans for example will be in the lower tier. It will be judged on a game-by-game basis depending on projected away ticket sales.”

Rovers will play their ninth home game of the season tomorrow, with four teams so far bringing more than 2,000 fans.

Leeds United, with 7,717 are the only team to have been given both the upper and lower tier, with Aston Villa allocated the whole of the bottom tier with their travelling support of 3,998.

The other two teams to have brought more than 2,000 fans were Sheffield United (2,057) and Nottingham Forest (2,002).

Reading, for a Tuesday night fixture, brought 247 fans, with Millwall (851) and Brentford (454) the other two teams to have played at Ewood so far.
