Tony Mowbray hopes to see Rovers evolve in to a team capable of controlling matches with the ball, believing they are already a match for anyone physically.

Rovers are chasing a third straight home win against Rotherham United tomorrow, but in the top 14 sides only fourth-placed Middlesbrough have scored fewer than Rovers’ nine goals at home this season, while just four teams in the division have had fewer shots at goal.

Bradley Dack’s 87th minute penalty helped Rovers to victory over QPR last weekend, but Mowbray has worked with his players in training on being better with the ball ahead of the Millers’ visit.

He said; “As I’ve said before I think we have got our foot flat to the floor, we’re are at full throttle with our team.

“The continual improvement will mean that, somewhere down the line, we can win games when we’re not full on the gas, we can get two or three goals up, make a few changes, pass the ball around and get ready for the next game.

“At the moment, for 90 minutes each game, we’re at full throttle.

“Let’s see how long we can go, how long we can sustain that.

“We need to improve on the grass, that’s why we’ve been working hard in training on being better with the ball.

“I think we can match every team physically and emotionally, going to war when we have to, but I want to make us somewhere down the line to a team that when the fans watch from the stands they can see we’re in control with the ball and the other team aren’t attacking because they can’t get the ball and we’re controlling the game.

“That’s where the development is going to come. Technically, the way we play the game, we have to evolve it if we’re going to become a top team in this league.”

Rotherham haven’t won a Championship away match in over two years, but Mowbray is wary of the threat they will bring to East Lancashire.

Paul Warne’s men have battled to impressive draws in their last two away matches at Preston and Middlesbrough, before coming from behind to beat play-off hopefuls Swansea last weekend.

“They’re important matches, this is another big game if you think of their last two away games,” Mowbray said.

“Two draws, a draw at Preston and a draw at Middlesbrough. 0-0 at the Riverside is a fantastic result for them.

“Then they beat Swansea, so it is important we put it into context, that his is no easy game.

“They’re a very hard working, well organised, and honest football team. They’re good on set plays, they have big physical players. They know how to take the sting out of a game. It is going to be another tight game and one we hope we can come out on top with.”
