Rovers captain Charlie Mulgrew has been named in the Scotland squad for their upcoming Nations League double header.

Mulgrew missed his fourth Rovers match of the season on Saturday after sustaining a rib injury in the draw at West Brom on October 27.

The 32-year-old remains a doubt for this weekend’s match with Rotherham United at Ewood Park with Mulgrew continuing to be assessed by the club’s medical department.

But despite that, the defender has been in the Scotland squad for the games against Albania on November 17 and Israel on November 20.

Mulgrew, who has 39 caps for his country, has played in both of Scotland's Nations League qualifiers, so far, scoring in the defeat in Israel last month before coming off with a hamstring injury.

Alex McLeish’s side are currently second in the League C Group 1 table with one win and a defeat from their two matches so far having beaten Albania at Hampden Park in September.

He has become a regular for his country under McLeish and had been captain up until the September matches when Liverpool full back Andrew Robertson was handed the armband on a permanent basis.

Speaking last month Mulgrew admitted he was keen to play on until he was 40 and re-iterated his desire to continue playing for his country.

Tony Mowbray also had 'no issues' with Mulgrew being called up to the last Scotland squad despite playing just twice for Rovers between the September and October international breaks as he missed four matches through illness and then a calf problem.

Rovers host Rotherham this weekend before the two week break from action, before returning with a run of three games in seven days against Preston and Wigan away from home before Sheffield Wednesday arrive at Ewood Park.

Meanwhile, Rovers defensive duo Darragh Lenihan and Derrick Williams have been named in the provisional Republic of Ireland squad.

The pair, who both have one cap each, have been named in Martin O’Neill’s 36-man squad which will be cut down over the weekend ahead of their upcoming matches.

Ireland host Northern Ireland in a friendly on November 15 before travelling to Denmark for a Nations League qualifier on November 19.
