Bradley Dack’s penalty was enough to see Rovers to victory against QPR, but the Rovers manager conceded that penalties weren't discussed prior to kick off.
Rovers’ usual penalty taker Charlie Mulgrew missed the clash against QPR with a rib injury, so Dack took it upon himself to convert from 12 yards.
On whether Dack was always going to take the penalty, Mowbray said: “As a manager I don’t have a big long list in the office, going Mulgrew, Conway, Dack.
“I think if you’re playing well, and you’re enjoying the game, and you’ve got the confidence to put the ball down and smash it in the net then it’s no problem.
“Even if he missed it, it’s great that players have got the confidence and the belief to see another opportunity to score a goal.
“You’re not going to question Dack’s technique and confidence. So we’re happy for him to take it, and happy he scored.”
Prior to Mulgrew taking over spot-kick duties, Conway had been Rovers penalty taker. He scored three under Mowbray in Rovers’ relegation season of 2016/17.
The last time Rovers were without Mulgrew and had a penalty, Marcus Antonsson failed to convert from the spot against Northampton in December 2017.
That was one of two penalty misses last season, with Mulgrew missing on the last day of the season against Oxford.
Rovers have converted all four of the penalties they have been awarded this season, Mulgrew scoring the other three before Dack.
