A decision on whether Rovers goalkeeper David Raya will require surgery will be made early this week.

Raya sustained a broken nose and required stiches to a facial wound picked up following a collision with Jay Rodriguez in the 1-1 draw at West Brom on October 27.

The 23-year-old spent time in his native Spain before meeting with a specialist on Thursday.

Should Raya require surgery then he could be sidelined for around six weeks, though there is a chance, with a protective mask, he could feature against Rotherham United on Saturday.

Mowbray told the Lancashire Telegraph: “They are making a decision early this week whether or not he needs an operation on his nose.

“If they don’t then I think they are confident that he may even be able to play next week with a mask on.

“Then we have two weeks after that with the international break.

“So we will make the call this week on whether David is going to play or whether he’s going to have surgery.”
