Ben Mee: I'll never play in another game like that

The Clarets turned on the style at the London Stadium but the Hammers imploded on and off the pitch, with several fans running on to the playing surface to confront the players while one pitch invader removed the corner flag and planted it in the centre circle.

Hundreds of West Ham fans also turned their attention to the directors' box, venting their anger at the club's owners.

While Mee was in the zone during the game, it was after the win that he realised what a crazy afternoon it had been.

"When you’re involved it’s a bit different to when you're watching it, you’re in game mode and you realise what’s happened after it," the 29-year-old said.

"I don’t think I’ll ever play in a game quite like that again. But at the time you just get on with it and focus on the game and what’s going on there, everything around you doesn’t affect you too much."

Burnley and West Ham face each other at the London Stadium on Saturday locked together on points, but after an encouraging run in September Manuel Pellegrini's side are now winless in four.

The Clarets head to the capital on the back of heavy defeats to Manchester City and Chelsea, but Mee is keen for them to learn their lessons from those setbacks.

"They’re not having too bad a time, they’ve got a new manager and some new players, they made some big signings," he said.

"We want to go there and play well and learn from the previous couple of weeks."

There were moments of encouragement against City and Chelsea, despite the 5-0 and 4-0 defeats, and while Mee knows improvement is needed he doesn't think the Clarets are too far away.

"We saw snippets of it in the first 20 minutes against Chelsea, we were very good but they scored and the heads went down a little bit," he said.

"First half against City we were fairly good as well. I think we’re close, we know the standards we need to be at.

"We need to be better and I think playing these big teams will really help us in the coming weeks."
