BLACKBURN Harriers dominated the Accrington 10k as they took the first five places with winner Ben Fish breaking the course record.

The race attracted a field of more than 500 entries with Fish leading them home in 31 minutes 32 seconds to see off the challenge of clubmate Jack Hindle who was just over two minutes behind in 33mins 41secs.

The Harriers domination saw Ben Costello (33mins 48secs) Karl Billington (33mins 57secs) and Joshua Holgate (34mins 6secs) round out the top five while the club had two more top 10 finishers. Christopher Davies finished seventh in a time of 34mins 44secs which saw him win the M40 honour while Calum James Holmes was just behind in 35mins 45secs.

Rossendale Harrier Alan Lundberg-Bury was 10th, and claimed the M55 category with a time of 36mins 47secs.

Anne-Marie Hindle claimed victory in the women’s race, clocking 42mins and 32secs which was enough for 45th place overall.

She finished a minute and half faster than nearest competitor Helen Buchan, who came home in 44mins 1sec which was enough to win the F40 prize.

Gillian Simpson won the F55 category. Running for Rossendale Harriers she finished with a time of 51mins and 5secs which was enough for 164th overall.

Trawden AC youngster Isabel Hartley was the first junior female home as she finished in 46mins 39secs ahead of clubmate Mia Fort (59mins 4secs).

Elsewhere, David Heppenstall (Accrington Road Runners), the sole M75 entry, came home in an impressive 68mins 42secs while the F65 prize went to Lynne Coogan (unattached) who finished in 53mins 46secs for 401st overall.

A little further back, Paul Young, running for Rossendale Harriers, finished 55th overall but fifth in the M40 category with a time of 43mins and 44secs.

Blackburn Harrier Paul Brindle was second in the M45 section, finishing in 37mins 14secs while Martin Oldfield (Darwen Dashers) matched that placing in the M55 category in a time of 38mins 16secs. He came home just ahead of David Edmondson (Clayton-Le-Moors Harriers) who crossed the line in 39mins 20secs. Rossendale Harrier Michael Toman was fifth in that age group in 42mins 1sec.

In the M60 category John Roche came second for Clayton-Le-Moors Harriers in 42mins 2secs while Andrew Bibby (Todmorden Harriers) was second in the M65 section.

Lindsay Davies (Blackburn Harriers) was second in the F45 category in 46mins 11secs.
