CHORLEY FC Women fell to a 3-1 defeat against Barnsley in their FAWNL game on Saturday.

A Katy Morris screamer wasn’t enough to earn an unfamiliar Chorley side any points.

A fast paced start to the game saw the Barnsley attack look to get in behind the Chorley backline but the Magpies held firm.

When Barnsley did break through, goalkeeper Izzy Atkinson stood tall to make the stop.

Chorley looked to counter where they could and Morris came close but headed Lisa Topping’s dangerous cross over the bar.

The home side did take the lead 15 minutes in when a low cross left a tap in.

Chorley looked to respond immediately with Rachel Wood denied by the goalkeeper as she looked to get on the end of Janet Mitchell’s cross.

The Magpies did level within seconds of the second half when Morris latched onto Laura Walker’s long ball and rifled a shot into the top of the net.

Chorley looked to take a grip of the game and came close when Grace Vella just failed to connect with Emily Stocks’ cut back.

But it was Barnsley who re-took the lead on 54 minutes with an arrowed shot beyond Atkinson.

Walker came close with a brilliant free kick which was deflected over but it was Barnsley who sealed the points on the break to leave Chorley beaten.

Chorley’s development squad were also beaten as they lost 2-1 to Guiseley Vixens.
