Spennymoor 3 York City 0.

Spennymoor pulled off one of the best victories in their history when they beat former Football League club York City at the Brewery Field to go fourth in the table.

After holding on against some strong York pressure early in the game, Moors scored twice before half time, and despite forced to reshuffle because of two injuries, again defended well and finished the game off near the end.

There were chances at both ends in the opening minutes. Moors keeper Jonathan Gould pulled off a good early stop from Wes York, then York keeper Adam Bartlett saved from Andy Johnson after he’d cut in from the right.

Alex Harris then put a long range shot just over the top before moors took the lead against the run of play on 18 minutes.

York carelessly lost possession, and the ball was played over the top to Stephen Brogan, who ran forward and beat Bartlett with a low diagonal shot

After the visitors had a goal disallowed, rampant Moors went 2-0 up on 25 minutes when Bartlett could only parry a fierce shot by Mark Anderson, and Glen Taylor reacted quickly to head in his 7th league goal of the season.

Moors then took a firm grip on the game and looked like scoring more as York struggled to cope with their pace and movement.

Anderson nearly obliged with another powerful shot that Bartlett parried, and then Shane Henry fired over.

Bradford nearly pulled a goal back on half time, but Jordan Burrows was off target.

Moors made a change at the start of the second half, Rob Atkinson coming on for the injured Jake Hibbs.

The crossbar then denied Moors a third, Rob Ramshaw setting up Anderson, who fired against the bar from an acute angle, and then Henry hit a blistering shot against the post.

Moors were then forced to replace the injured James Curtis with Shane Tuton, and York piled on the pressure.

Jon Parkin headed just over the crossbar, then Gould saved at close range from Burrows. And the referee caused anger amongst the York fans by disallowing a goal by Bencherif.

Josh Law then hit the bar from a free kick, then former Moors player Kallum Griffiths was just wide from a free kick.

But Moors weathered the pressure, and finished York off when sub Adam Boyes won possession and set up Taylor, who went on to beat Bartlett for the third.
