BURNLEY FC Women's star Sarah Greenhalgh said she is honoured to have been named as a finalist in the Northwest Football Awards 2018.

The forward is the first Clarets player to be shortlisted and comes after Greenhalgh helped the newly promoted side to top spot in the FA Women’s National League Northern Division 1.

Greenhalgh said: “I am completely overwhelmed to have been shortlisted as a finalist! I’m honestly so surprised at the amount of support I’ve received and I’m genuinely grateful to every single person who has taken the time to vote for me.”

Greenhalgh will be up against Manchester City midfielder Jen Beattie, Liverpool FC Women’s Laura Coombs, Everton Ladies Angharad James and Fylde Ladies defender Jenna Carroll.

Burnley FC Women First Team Manager Matt Bee said: “It is great to have one of our female players not only nominated but shortlisted as a finalist for the first time in the club’s history.

"Obviously, everyone is really proud of Sarah, her work rate, effort and desire to keep learning has been fantastic during my two years at the club. She is deserving of the recognition.”

The Northwest Football Awards take place on Monday, November 12, at The Point, Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester.
