Rovers will show their support to help survivors of the recent Indonesian earthquake and tsunami at tomorrow’s home game against Leeds United.

The club will be holding bucket collections around Ewood Park to raise funds for survivors of the disaster, which has had devastating effects on the south east Asian nation.

On September 28, an earthquake measuring 7.4 on the richter scale rocked the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, triggering a terrifying tsunami.

Over 2,000 people lost their lives, with hundreds of thousands left homeless and without shelter.

Joe Ferguson, a member of Rovers Under-16s, is half-Indonesian and is a frequent visitor to the country.

He said: “The earthquakes and tsunamis have had a massive impact because they’ve been one after another and it’s devastation after devastation.

“It’s affecting the people and everything that’s going on there, so it’s going to be hard for them to get through it.”

His mum, Roganda, added: “It really breaks my heart. The Indonesian people feel like it’s never-ending, because there was an earthquake before and then now a tsunami, and the conditions are so very, very bad.

“With Joe being at Blackburn Rovers, we are so proud of the football club that they are thinking about the Indonesian people, who need help from everybody in England and all around the world. If anybody can help, it really does mean so, so much.

“We very much appreciate those who think about the Indonesian people, the victims of the tsunami and the families who have lost their loved ones. Thank you.”
