Charlie Mulgrew says it’s only natural to think of where Rovers could be had they not shipped late goals in draws with Ipswich Town and Aston Villa.

Injury time goals denied Rovers three points on the opening day at Portman Road, as well as against Villa at Ewood Park, but Rovers still find themselves well placed after 12 games.

Rovers head in to tomorrow’s meeting with Leeds United in 10th, a point outside the play-offs, having won four of their 12 matches.

And while that could be more, the captain is hoping they can build on an encouraging start.

“We aim as high as we can, those one or two late goals go our way and we could be anywhere,” said Mulgrew, who should be fit to play despite an injury concern during the international break.

“Naturally you look what could be, but we can play better than that and hopefully we can put it together and win a few games in a row.

“It’s been a fairly solid start, but human nature is to think about getting better.

“We will keep fighting every game, have a game-plan and try and carry it out.

“Every team you play against has a threat. It’s difficult, but we keep plugging away.

Key to Rovers’ start has been the eight goals of Bradley Dack, but Mulgrew says the 24-year-old is enjoying the labours of a full team effort.

He added: “Bradley gets in the right areas, but I could name 18 players here who’ve worked hard and played their part so far. It takes much more than just putting the ball in the net.

“I can’t speak highly enough of him, but there are other players who do the dirty side of the game as well.”
