RIBBLE Valley Netball Club ended the outdoor tournament season in style at the Chorley Inferno event in Horwich.

Open to Lancashire based clubs and attracting 53 teams in age groups from under nines to under 16s with clubs coming from the Fylde, Blackburn, Leyland and Preston.

Ribble Valley demonstrated their strength and depth entering 10 teams across the six age groups and with three teams competing in the under 12s event - meaning almost all the clubs’ members at this age were competing.

As the competition wore on the club’s youngsters shone much brighter than the weather with the Under 11s continuing their fine summer season winning their league with a 100 per cent record to take gold.

The Under U10s, playing in their first seven-a-side tournament finished a very creditable seventh in the same league, winning one game and narrowly missing out against older and more experienced opposition showing they also have a bright future.

In the under 12s age group, an all-Ribble Valley final was denied when the Green squad couldn’t overturn a one goal deficit at half time in their semi final against Wyre - a goalless second half saw three shots agonisingly rebound of the edge of the hoop.

In the final, the Blues avenged that defeat by completing the club’s second 100 per cent clean sweep to take first place while the White squad, who had several players making their debuts, came in a very creditable eighth.

Completing a hat-trick of 100 per cent records were the Under 13s with another final win.

Across the older teams, a depleted Under 14s squad came sixth in their group with help from some Under 12s and Under 13s players, while the under U15s competition saw the Greens pick up a runners-up spot with the Blue squad finishing in fourth.

The club’s day then ended earlier than hoped when the Under U16s lost in the semi final and had to settle for fourth place. The club now move onto the winter leagues in Bury and Greater Manchester while the senior side is competing in the North West Regional Premier League for the first time and are always looking for players who can add strength to their current teams.
