Rovers reporter Rich Sharpe hands out his player ratings after the 1-0 win at Bolton.

David Raya 8

Two important saves in the first half, including an excellent fingertip effort to deny Magennis. A fifth clean sheet of the season was well deserved.

Elliott Bennett 7

Used on both flanks but had more freedom to get forward in the first. Helped shackle the advancing Olkowski after the break.

Darragh Lenihan 8

Looked much more secure with Mulgrew back alongside him. Won his fair share of the battle with Magennis.

Charlie Mulgrew 8 (MAN OF THE MATCH)

A first start in three weeks for the skipper who helped bring a level of composure to the backline. Was well placed to clear a Magennis header off the line, and barely put a foot wrong all afternoon. Needed the linesman’s flag to come to his rescue though not to give away what would have been a soft penalty late on.

Derrick Williams 7

Solid performance at left back, and then left centre half on his 100th appearance for the club.

Jack Rodwell 7

Kept Rovers ticking over with neat use of the ball on his first league start. A good hour under his belt and showed his quality with some long range passing.

Harrison Reed 7

Full of running in the first half, not least in the lead up to Dack’s goal. Used the ball well and his influence was lost in the second half when moved to wing back.

Joe Rothwell 7

Had a hand in the goal, and unlucky to be denied by an excellent block, on a first away start. Some neat touches elsewhere, and was unfortunate to be substituted.

Bradley Dack 7

Was on the spot to turn in the loose ball on a rare sight of goal. Change of shape in the second half didn’t help him.

Kasey Palmer 7

His best moment of the match saw him play a part in the Rovers goal. Drifted out of the game when the going got tougher in the second half.

Danny Graham 7

His workrate was eye catching in a second half which saw him struggle for any form of service.

Subs

Richie Smallwood (for Rodwell, 59) 6

Sent on to try and help Rovers grind their way over the finishing line

Corry Evans (for Rothwell, 59) 7

Showed good energy after coming off the bench, ending his run of starts this season

Adam Armstrong (for Palmer, 70) 6

Used his pace to almost finish the game off late on, only to be denied by a Matthews save
