Rovers duo Darragh Lenihan and Derrick Williams have been named in the Republic of Ireland provisional squad ahead of their UEFA Nations League double-header.

The Rovers pair missed the September matches, with Lenihan not called up, and Williams unavailable because of injury.

But both have been named in Martin O’Neill’s provisional squad ahead of games with Denmark and Wales.

Lenihan made his debut in the friendly with USA in June, with Williams having won his first cap against France in May.

O’Neill has named a 32 man squad which will be cut down ahead of the team meeting up early next week.

Ireland, beaten 4-1 by Wales in their opening Nations League match, will look to get their first points on the board when they host Denmark on Saturday, October 13.

And they will be hoping to avenge the defeat to Wales when they meet in Dublin in the reverse fixture on Tuesday, October 16.

Lenihan has started all 11 of Rovers’ Championship fixtures so far while Williams has overcome a foot injury, and served a one match ban, to feature in six matches.

Assistant boss Roy Keane has been at Ewood Park this season to keep track of the pair who are two of 11 defenders called up to the squad.
