SAM Vokes believes Burnley have turned the corner after the Wales international was the match-winner for the Clarets back on familiar turf at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Vokes marked his 100th Premier League - of which 89 have been for Burnley - with a goal, heading past Neil Etheridge to restore Burnley's lead, after Josh Murphy had cancelled out Johann Berg Gudmundsson's opener.

It marked a second successive top flight win for Sean Dyche's side, who are now up to 12th in the table, having been bottom just over a week ago.

The success in south Wales followed the 4-0 victory over Bournemouth, and asked if the Clarets had turned the corner after their poor start, Vokes said: "I think so. It was a tough start with Europe and the amount of fixtures we had.

"It was huge for us to get those two wins on the board and with Huddersfield at home next week we’ll be looking to add to that."

Before the thrashing of the Cherries a week ago Burnley had lost four successive Premier League games and had turned in some uncharacteristic performances as well.

But Vokes believes there have been encouraging signs over the past two weekends.

"We had as chat before the Bournemouth game as a squad and it was important we got the performances from last year back," the 28-year-old said.

"We had a strong year last year and expectations change as well. It was a big two wins for us and hopefully we can build on that."

Vokes marked his century of top flight appearances with his 15th Premier League goal for Burnley.

"I found that out before the game, it’s nice to tick that off," he said of reaching 100 Premier League appearances.

"It’s good to be part of that, most of that was with Burnley so it shows how far we’ve come.

"The first year I was here we were battling for survival in the Championship. To see the growth we’ve had to be in the Europa League at the start of this year is massive.

"For us it’s important to build on that and stay at this level."

On his goal, Vokes added: "It’s always nice to score anywhere. It was a tough game, when they equalised the crowd got behind them and you felt the momentum was with them.

"For us to dig in for 15 minutes after the goal was important.

"It’s nice to get a goal as a striker and hopefully I can add to that."
